The BIG MOVE!

After many years in the Cincinnati area we retired (Tom from P&G and I retired a couple of years ago from teaching high school) and have moved south.

It was a hard decision to leave this area, but have dreamed of living in a "golfing" community with water nearby. We have vacationed for many years in the Outer Banks and love North Carolina, so decided to make this our home.

Thanks to all of our numerous friends for the memories we take with us. We will lean on those memories as we acclimate to our new home.

As we traveled to North Carolina, we decided we would take the "backroads" and see some sights that we might never see. Years ago, Kendall (our daughter) and I went whitewater rafting down the New River in West Virginia with our friends Christine and Suzi Noble. There's a lot of history in this area and the bridge built over the gully. You ought to google "Bridge Day - West Virginia" to read about this history.
Anyway, Tom wanted to see the bridge so we drove to Fayetteville, WV to see the sites. Of course the backroads are in "Deliverance" country so we drove with the doors locked. But it is gorgeous this time of year and we really enjoyed the sites.

This bridge is the second highest single-arched bridge in the US.

The New River running towards the bridge.
This is the river we rafted down. It doesn't look like much here, but there were some pretty rough spots.

During "Bridge" Day (Oct), base jumpers jump from the bridge and try and land on the small beach below. The contest is to see how many jumps they can make during the day. But if they miss the beach and land in the water they have to dry their shoots before they can jump again. There are rafts in the river that pick up the jumpers who don't make the beach. It's a lot of fun watching these daredevils have their fun.

After climbing 200 steps down and then up to see the bridge and take pictures,
we headed for North Carolina.

We are building our new home, something we have never done.
It's quite an ordeal to build a home for yourself.

 The house today...

It moving along. We are living in a one bedroom condo on the plantation so we will be able to see the daily progress, but the tight quarters might get old really fast.

Will update as often as possible...
