Trip Home!

We decided to take a side trip on our way home.
We drove to Whites City, NM so we could see
the Carlsbad Caverns.

You can see the switch-back pathway we had to walk
down to enter the cave. The big hole is where the
thousands of bats exit the cave each night.
The pathway is about 1.5 miles and we descended to
800 feet below ground.

Once in the cave we took a tour of the "King's Palace"
which can only be seen on a tour and then we walked
through the "The Big Room" which is a self-guided
tour. The following pictures do not even come
close to showing how awesome this place is:

The water in the pool was over 8 feet deep but it
looked like it was less than 2 feet deep.

Looking up at some forming stalagtites.

It was cool in the caverns and quite dark. It's surprising
the pictures turned out at all.
Well worth the time!

Stopped in Lamesa, Texas at a Dairy Queen but
then saw this across the street. Couldn't decide if
we dare try it.

Staying in Abilene, TX tonight….
