Hello Dominica

HELLO FROM DOMINICA

We left Puerto Rico and flew to the island of Antigua.  It was a beautiful flight because you could see all the islands as you flew over them and the water was so clear and green.  The airport in Antigua was very small, you de-planed and walked across the landing to the building. There were a few small shops, one sandwich joint and lots of people.
Of course our flight was delayed which worried us because you can't land planes in Dominica after dark since they don't have landing lights.  If we didn't leave by 5:30 we wouldn't make it. We left at 5:20.  The thought of staying all night in that small (dirty) airport was not something I would have enjoyed.

Dominica airport was even smaller.  I wondered if the plane would be able to land.  We had no problems getting through customs and finding the guy Krista had arranged to pick us up.  The ride to Dominica though was very interesting.  It is only about 20-25 miles but it took over an hour because the road is really a one car road and "extremely" hilly and windy.  We were warned that we could experience nausea, but Ren drove very slowly so we were fine.  He kept asking if we needed to stop and walk around.

It was so good to see Krista and Josh.  There apartment is wonderful:

Of course they live on the third floor in the right-hand corner and no there are no elevators. Josh was our bell-boy.  The apartment is darling with white tile floors and quite roomy.

Outside, their street is lined with beautiful flowers, as is the whole area.  It reminded me
so much of Costa Rica.  There are banana and mango trees everywhere.

Krista and I went to check out the farmer's market and were heading home.  You turn right at the lane to get to their place.

Portsmouth (the 'village' they live in) has its own pharmacy.  You can buy drugs over-
-the-counter, like codeine.  I'm excited!

They have a hair salon and ice cream store.  We're set!!

But most important, there is water.  Stay tune for the rest of the adventure.
