Third Day in Dominica

Today is a national holiday in Dominica.  Most of the shops are closed so we decided to make it a full day of snorkeling.  There is a beach north of town that we heard had the best coral.  There wasn't much of a beach though, mostly rocks.

Getting to the water was a bit tricky.  In the water there are a lot of 'sea urchins' among the rocks and they really can sting your feet so you have to avoid them.  But once we were able to get in the water, avoiding the urchins, the scenery was well worth the effort.  I wish we had an underwater camera.

Josh had success spearing a fish.  It wasn't very big but very colorful.

We walked back towards town (about 1.5 miles) to a eating place on the beach called the Purple Turtle.  We ate some hamburgers and then decided we weren't up to the 4 mile walk we still had left so we called a taxi.  It was a great day.  Tomorrow we're going to Roseau for some more adventures, stay tune.

That is as big as some of the fish Tom catches in Avon.

I LOVE that you're keeping us all up to date on your trip. It's so fun to see all of these pictures and read the stories. I love it all.

Why would you spear a small fish like that?
